Denver requires that businesses remove snow from adjacent sidewalks within four hours after each snowfall to ensure the safety of employees, customers and passing pedestrians. Denver allows residential property occupants twenty-four hours in which to remove snow from adjacent sidewalks following each snowfall.
Both businesses and residents are cautioned that despite initial efforts to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, daytime temperatures often cause adjacent snow to partially melt, creating puddles on sidewalks that later freeze. It may help to place common ice melt products, cat litter or sand on icy spots to provide traction.
Especially susceptible to icy conditions are sidewalks shaded from daytime sunlight by adjacent buildings. To report an icy sidewalk hazard, please call Neighborhood Inspection Services at 311.
