Inclusiveness Committee January 3, 2008
CHUN’s Board of Delegates voted in December 2007 to create a new standing Inclusiveness Committee (also known as the I-TEAM). The creation of this standing committee is one part of CHUN’s overall efforts to implement its long-term strategic plan, which CHUN has diligently been working to develop over the past year. The goal of the Inclusiveness Committee will be to help guide CHUN in its work towards imbedding a culture of inclusiveness, which will include making CHUN into a more demographically diverse organization at every level so that it can more accurately reflect the rich diversity in the Capitol Hill neighborhoods that it serves. To that end, the Inclusiveness Committee will help CHUN to recruit a wider range of board and staff members as well as diversifying our membership and services to address and appeal to a larger array of the residents that CHUN serves.
One of the committee’s first acts has been to survey our board of delegates to determine its demographic make-up. The survey included questions about areas of professional and personal knowledge/interest, income, race, age, sexual orientation, years of residency in Colorado and so forth in order to better understand our make-up. We plan to conduct a similar survey of our members, so that once we know who we currently are, we can better address how to make CHUN a more inclusive organization. Like CHUN’s other standing committees, we will have regular monthly meetings.
