Welcome to the BOARD!

CHUN hosted the 2025 All Members Meeting!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods’ 2025 All Members Meeting! It was an evening filled with community spirit, collaboration, and celebration.
We’re thrilled to announce the successful election of four new board members, who will bring fresh perspectives and leadership to CHUN. Members also approved the 2025 budget, ensuring we can continue our vital work in the year ahead.
A highlight of the evening was honoring our SEED Award winners—dedicated individuals and organizations making a lasting impact in our neighborhoods. Their commitment to building a more inclusive and vibrant community is truly inspiring.
We were also privileged to hear from Councilman Chris Hinds, a former CHUN board member, who shared insights on the importance of civic engagement and neighborhood advocacy.
Thank you to all who attended, voted, and continue to support CHUN’s mission. Here’s to another year of building a stronger, more connected Capitol Hill!

Congratulations to ALL the 2025 SEED Award Winners!

We’re excited to share the winners of the Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods (CHUN) 2025 SEED Awards! These awards provide funding to local nonprofit organizations (501C3) dedicated to improving the Capitol Hill community.
The SEED Awards—standing for Smart, solutions-oriented development, Enrichment, Environmental sustainability, and Diversity—recognize innovative projects that foster civic entrepreneurship and promote engagement across these key areas.
Congratulations to our WINNERS!

Introducing Fireside Chats with George G.!

Picture
CHUN is excited to launch Fireside Chats with George G., a new community program designed to foster open conversations about the issues that matter most to our neighborhoods. These informal gatherings are open to everyone and cover a range of topics—from housing and parks to all the community news in between.
Our first Fireside Chat, held on February 4, was a fantastic success! Neighbors came together for a lively discussion, sharing ideas, concerns, and insights about our community’s future. With thoughtful dialogue and great company (plus snacks!), it was an evening that truly reflected the spirit of CHUN.
We can’t wait to see you at the next Fireside Chat on April 1, where the focus will be on Safety—an important topic for all of us. Bring your questions, bring your ideas, and, of course, come hungry!
Stay tuned for more details, and we’ll see you by the fire! 🔥

A Toast to Our Members: Secret Garden Secret Happy Hour

After the success of our 2025 All Members Meeting, CHUN members gathered for a special Secret Garden Secret Happy Hour to celebrate our community and the people who make it thrive. Hosted by CHUN, this exclusive event was our way of saying thank you to our dedicated members for their ongoing support.
With delicious snacks, refreshing beverages, and a welcoming atmosphere, the evening was filled with great conversations and camaraderie. A huge thank you to the incredible team at Secret Garden for helping make the event such a success—we couldn’t have asked for a better way to cap off the night!
We’re grateful for our amazing CHUN community and look forward to more opportunities to connect and celebrate together. Cheers to another great year ahead! 🍻🌿

Exploring Our Neighborhood: The Sherman Historic District

Picture
Ever strolled down Poet’s Row and wondered what gives this charming block its name? Nestled in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, the Sherman Historic District earned its spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004—and for good reason!
This stretch of three-story brick apartments on the 1000 block of Sherman (between 10th and 11th Avenues) is a stunning showcase of Art Deco, Art Moderne, and International styles, complete with terra cotta door surrounds and trim. But what really makes it special? The buildings are all named after literary greats—hence the nickname Poet’s Row!
While the exact origin of the name remains a mystery, it’s likely a nod to the district’s main architect, Charles Strong, a known literature lover. And as if the literary flair wasn’t enough, residents also get a prime view of the Colorado State Capitol, just two blocks north.
Next time you’re wandering Capitol Hill, take a moment to appreciate this historic gem—it’s a true chapter in Denver’s story!

After making significant progress on the city’s shared goals in 2024, Mayor Johnston’s 2025 goals push to continue making progress on key initiatives like reducing homelessness, driving down housing costs and increasing public safety, while increasing focus on additional priorities like climate resiliency and making Denver the best place in America to raise a family.

"Amidst the feeling of chaos and unpredictability in our federal government right now, our message to Denverites is clear: we're focused on delivering the best services for our residents, and we're not slowing down," said Mayor Mike Johnston." Our 2025 goals build on our successes to date in an effort to make Denver the best place in America to work, live, play, and raise a family. In Denver, we say our toughest problems are solvable and we are the ones to solve them, and with these goals as our North Star, we're prepared to spend the year building a Denver that is truly vibrant, affordable, and safe for everyone."
