A Track Record of Success

THROUGHOUT OUR 50 YEARS, CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS HAS...
  • Prevented the closure of neighborhood schools.
  • Worked with the city and other neighborhoods to designate historic districts and landmark structures.
  • Planted thousands of street trees in all parts of Capitol Hill.
  • Worked with the city and other neighborhoods to reduce the number of one-way streets and to add parking where it makes sense.
  • Prevented harmful rezoning requests, improved many others and developed good relationships with developers and architects.
  • Prevented harmful liquor or cabaret license applications and improved many others through good-neighbor agreements.
  • Worked on projects and policy issues with other city-wide neighborhoods through Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation (INC).
  • Sponsored neighborhood assemblies, often in conjunction with other neighborhood groups, on liquor and rezoning applications and other neighborhood issues.
  • Maintained a communication network for the approximately 20 other neighborhood groups within Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods' boundaries.

  • Sponsored many meetings with the city to develop Zoning Codes
  • Worked with the city and other neighborhood groups to develop several neighborhood plans
  • Had innumerable committee meetings to share information and work on specific issues – Zoning, Transportation and Historic Preservation
  • Taken positions on important local and state government policy issues
  • Helped many neighbors deal with nuisance properties or navigating through the city bureaucracy
  • Worked to reduce crime in Greater Capitol Hill
  • Worked to encourage affordable housing and provide compassionate help for the homeless
  • Hosted several social events at local establishments throughout the greater Capitol Hill area for residents to meet delegates over food and drink
  • Hosted the annual easter egg hunt bringing neighborhood children out for a morning of games, prizes, and fun
  • ​Donated space at the Tears McFarlane house to local nonprofit organizations whose work supports ending homelessness
